Shannon Horse Camp
Shannon Horse Camp is a large fenced area for camping with horses at the trailhead for the Shannon National Park bridle trails.
Booking
Bookings are essential and can be made:
- online and at this website only
- for one horse float and towing vehicle only
- up to and including the day of arrival (subject to campsite availability and your own internet service* to make a booking)
- up to 180 days (approximately six months) before arrival
*Check your mobile service provider’s coverage map but beware that the quality and reliability of service in regional and remote Australia can be variable and is impacted by the forests and hills of Australia’s South West.
Friends, family or other social groups travelling together in separate vehicles must make their own separate bookings.
If you are an outdoor education provider, licensed commercial tour operator or are organising an event (friends, family and other social groups camping together does not constitute an event), contact Parks and Wildlife Service Donnelly District Office (Pemberton) to discuss your requirements.
Campsites
No marked individual campsites and no power.
Facilities
Drinking water not provided. Untreated water may be available but supply is not guaranteed and treatment is required to make safe for consumption.
Horse yards, hitching rails, water taps (not suitable for human consumption without treatment) and compost bays.
Communal-use fire rings.
At the adjacent Shannon Campground (horses not permitted):
Flush toilets and no-flush pit toilets.
Portable toilet dump point.
Showers: water heated by camper-operated wood-fired heater.
Food preparation shelter with gas barbecue, dishwashing sink and food preparation surfaces.

Campground Rules
Campers with horses only.
Campfires when conditions permit and in the provided communal-use fire rings only. Usual permitted season: May - November. Check current campfire conditions
Chopped firewood may be available. Bring your own in case none is available. Check current restrictions on the movement of wood, including firewood. Collecting firewood and kindling is not permitted in national parks and other conservation reserves.
No dogs or other domestic animals (horses excepted).
Generator use is permitted 9am-7pm only.
Do not empty waste from portable toilets into campground toilets. Use the dump point at Shannon Campground carry waste out of the park for disposal in an authorised dump point.
Fees
A per person camping fee and a per vehicle park entry fee apply.
Camping fee must be paid by Mastercard or VISA when booking.
Park entry fee may be paid when booking, on arrival at Shannon National Park or by purchasing a park pass and is required for motor vehicles only. Payment is not required for trailers including horse floats.

Drinking water is not provided.
December to April can be very hot and the risk of bushfire can be very high.
Nights can be cold from June to September.
Storms are common between May and October throughout WA.
Shannon Horse Camp is in remote Australia.
Ensure you have sufficient supplies (including water, food, fuel, medication and first aid), and equipment and clothing appropriate for the conditions before travelling.
